Damian Thomson is a marine ecologist at CSIRO whose research focuses on the ecology of coral reefs. His research encompasses tropical and temperate ecosystems in Australia and Papua New Guinea. His research focuses on understanding how physical and biological factors influence the distribution and abundance of organisms on the seafloor. He currently leads the shallow reefs program within the Ningaloo Outlook project and is Team Leader for the Coastal Ecosystems and Modelling group.

The Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program respects and recognises all Traditional Owners of the Great Barrier Reef as First Nations Peoples holding the hopes, dreams, traditions and cultures of the Reef.
