Morgan Pratchett
Professor Morgan Pratchett is a conservation ecologist based at James Cook University, Townsville, where he teaches Coral Reef Ecology and advises number of graduate students. His research is largely focussed on understanding and managing foremost threats to coral reef ecosystems. Morgan is committed to ensuring that not only is this research published in peer-reviewed journals, but also effectively applied to improve the outlook for coral reefs globally.
His current research projects include:
- assessing the status and trends of benthic assemblages in Australia’s offshore tropical marine parks (e.g., Coral Sea and Christmas Island),
- understanding the causes and consequences of population irruptions of crown-of-thorns starfish, and
- assessing the sustainability of ongoing coral harvesting (for the marine aquarium trade) across the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
