Dr Mary Allen is a social scientist on contract as the Socioeconomics Coordinator for NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program. Mary also leads the socioeconomic component of the National Coral Reef Monitoring Program and the Global SocMon Initiative and is developing a new social science monitoring program for coral restoration in the Florida Keys.
Her research has examined a variety of human dimensions on topics such as ecosystem services, marine protected area impacts, social justice, acceptable trade-offs, attitudes and drivers of human behaviour. Mary has a Ph.D. in Coastal Resources Management from East Carolina University, and a M.S. in Marine Resources Management and a B.S. in Marine Biology at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
