Associate Professor
Dr Guillermo Diaz-Pulido is Associate Professor at the School of Environment and Science at Griffith University (Brisbane, Australia), and leads the Coral Reef Algae Laboratory. He is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. Diaz-Pulido received a Bachelor’s degree in Colombia and his PhD from James Cook University, Australia, in Marine Botany. He is a pioneer in the study of physiological and ecological effects of anthropogenic activities in coral reef marine plants. His research on the effects of elevated CO2 on the ecological dynamics between macroalgae and corals, and on physiological processes of coralline red algae is critical for understanding the impacts of ocean acidification and warming on coral reef conservation. Diaz-Pulido serves on the Editorial Board of Ecology Letters and PLoS One, and provides regular advice to Government institutions on the roles of marine algae in reef ecosystems.
